Lose Belly Fat With These 4 Super Foods

Why do I need Essential Fatty Acids, Antioxidants and Fiber?

Essential Fatty Acids

Essential Fatty Acids are essential to our bodies, but our body cannot make them. We must ingest them through the foods we eat. There are two types of fatty acids that are the foundation for all of the fatty acids in our body - linoleic and linolenic acid. They sound the same, but have different roles in our bodies.

You may have heard of them as Omega- 6 (linoleic fatty acids) and Omega-3 (linolenic fatty acids). Omega-6 and Omega-3 are important in making substances that help regulate pain, swelling and inflammation. They have also been linked to helping control your blood pressure, your heart and your kidneys.

Most people don't get enough Omega-3 in their diets. To get more Omega-3 you should add salmon and spinach to your diet.

Omega-6 is found in processed foods (it can be found in vegetable oil, meats and egg yolks). Most people get plenty of Omega-6 and are out of balance by eating too many Omega-6 and not enough Omega-3.

Experts are still weighing in on the issue, but some believe that this imbalance, where we used to eat the same amount of Omega-3 as Omega-6 but now eat as much as 40 times as much Omega-6 has led to health problems like cardiovascular disease, inflammation and diabetes.

Antioxidants

Within our body, there are chemical reactions happening all the time. Part of the by-product of all of these reactions is free radicals. Free radicals are known to cause tissue damage, aging and disease. Free radicals try to bond with healthy molecules to create even more damage. Antioxidants protect healthy tissue from free radicals and can in some cases reverse the damage caused by free radicals.

You want to eat foods that are rich in antioxidants, such as beta-carotene, vitamin C and vitamin E.

Blueberries are rich in anti-oxidants and a University of Michigan study preliminary showed that a blueberry rich diet may help reduce belly fat!

Fiber

There are two types of fiber - soluble (which dissolves in water) and insolvable (doesn't dissolve in water.) Soluble fiber makes you feel full and insoluble fiber helps prevent constipation.

When fiber fills you up and makes you feel full, you eat fewer calories. Research also suggests that eating fiber at breakfast is especially beneficial, as you are starting the day feeling fuller and eating less. Oatmeal is a great way to start the morning and it contains soluble and insoluble fiber.

How do I get started?

It is hard to make changes into your diet. I recommend that you gradually add these foods into your diet, and rotate them in and out of our meals. That way, you won't get quickly bored of the new foods, and you give your body time to adjust to the new tastes. Gradually add more and more of these foods into your meals. Start your day with blueberries on a bowl of oatmeal for breakfast and end your day with grilled salmon with spinach!
